Cannabis sales in Colorado reached 186 million dollars in December 2020, as reported on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, by the State Department of Revenue, DOR. Overall, Colorado\’s total sales of cannabis to date have exceeded 9.9 billion dollars since January 2014.
For the entire year of 2020, cannabis sales have reached 2.1 billion dollars. This amount is the first time that sales were more than 2 billion dollars since the state started to track the sales data in 2014. These total sales include those for both medical and recreational cannabis. Between 2019 and 2020, cannabis sales went up sharply by over 400 million dollars.
State tax and revenue from fees from cannabis sales reached 34 million dollars in January 2021, according to the state DOR. Since the aforementioned inception of data tracking cannabis sales in Colorado in January 2014, the state has collected more than 1.6 billion dollars in tax revenue. Tax revenue data is reported on a monthly basis and is posted in Colorado\’s accounting system. The total sales figures include the summary of the sales of both medical and recreational cannabis from cannabis stores by county each month.
