Cannabis was used as far back as 2,500 years ago for non medicinal purposes. In 2019, a team of Chinese archaeologists in Beijing found evidence of this early use. An analysis at the site of the dig revealed that cannabis was used at funerals as a euphoria producing substance that helped with the mourning process.
Throughout the 1900\’s, people began using cannabis for recreational purposes. It was the most commonly used illegal substance. Cannabis is often associated with the counterculture in the 1960\’s and 1970\’s. It was often utilized as an act of defiance and protest. Then in the late 1990\’s, medical cannabis reform began to widen, and its use became more widespread, especially in the United States. It is currently much more common now, and Canada and Uruguay have legalized cannabis for adult use. More people have become willing to admit to cannabis use during these last twenty five years of cannabis reform. Many consumers have globally been increasing use after a long absence.
