    There are several developments in the push to decriminalize cannabis as a Schedule 1 controlled substance. These vary by state, and the commonality among them is that legal cannabis is highly favored.

    For example, Pennsylvania\’s lieutenant governor tweeted that at least, there would be cannabis decriminalization at the federal level during president elect Joe Biden\’s presidency. In Rhode Island, the incoming House speaker has stated that he is open to the legalization of cannabis in 2021. The chairman of Hawaii\’s Senate Health Committee plans to hold a hearing to legalize cannabis next year, also. In Minnesota, hemp regulators began to accept licensing applications. In the state of Illinois, the top cannabis regulator talked about efforts to go about implementing its legalization. Alaska regulators released a list of approved cannabis products, while in Virginia, regulators compiled a list of registered processors of hemp. Likewise, in support of approval measures, on November 17th, Nevada regulators were to consider cannabis licensing. The mayor of Atlantic City, NJ, is calling for the city to have the distinction of being the only place in the state that is allowed to conduct legal cannabis sales for a three to five year period.

    On an international level, Israel\’s justice minister stated that the country will legalize cannabis within nine months, and the government of Argentina published a list of regulations that will allow for the cultivation and sale of medical cannabis and its products. A well known US publication has stated that the passage of cannabis reform will be a welcome change from decades of negative drug policies.
