Within the past few days, cannabis officials from 19 states announced the formation of a new committee. It is called the Cannabis Regulators Association, and its purpose is to share practices and policies as cannabis legalization increases. In contrast, the New Jersey State and Assembly committees delayed the possibility of cannabis legalization bills, and further details are being considered. A separate cannabis decriminalization initiative did advance, and it includes a new amendment to reduce penalties for cannabis use.

The current administration listened to the views on cannabis of some celebrities, and Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, from Vermont and Massachusetts, respectively, cited the success of cannabis ballot measures in their politically diverse states. These are progressive policies, which they feel that the incoming administration should continue. Voters were in support of these policies to improve the lives of many people. Specifically, the states of Arizona, Montana, New Jersey and South Dakota voted to approve legalizing cannabis, in a measure to move away from the stigma of the war on drugs.
