There have been data from the FDA, and their testing methodology that have been talked about here. The FDA will need further study of CBD and the other cannabinoids, just as the scientific experts will need to study it further, also. The FDA itself is encouraged by the groups who are involved with, and are interested in, helping to develop more information and data on the safety and use of CBD products. Existing studies were not adequate to fill all of the questions that remain in this area.

This sought after data will be collected with the help of the aforementioned stakeholders, and also with government, academia and the industry itself. Real world data, RWD, will be required, which is high quality data analysis using rigorous efforts. The FDA believes that there will be an opportunity to derive better sources of real world data. This will then provide increased improvements of the safety and efficacy profiles of CBD. This holds true for the population as a whole, and potentially, in specific populations.

A framework by the FDA would begin with developing research projects which would set the groundwork for RWD scientific evidence on the use and safety of CBD and its products. These projects would expand upon existing state and national safety and quality monitoring controls. The FDA would also utilize observational data and new data sources in order to develop more efficient capabilities for collecting and analyzing the data. They know from experience that projects which coordinate with government, academia and the private sector can lead to rapid growth in developing progressive methods of collecting and analyzing RWD. Recently, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, research projects between outside data experts in conjunction with the FDA have also focused on RWD. This improves both analysis and methods, in order to inform the public on the health response to the pandemic. A similar methodological model can be beneficial for the quest for further knowledge and understanding of CBD and the other cannabinoids.
